Some people think this is what a healthy or vegan dessert looks like. Ha! Don’t do that to yourself. This is by no means dessert.

I don’t think it’s fair that healthy and vegan food gets such a bad rap for being boring and unexciting. That’s simply not the case! I’m here to remind you that you don’t have to munch on celery sticks in order to stay healthy when every one around you is indulging in dessert. Nor should you abandon your healthy eating just because it’s the holidays. When you know how to make delicious and healthy sweets, you can relax and indulge in natural goodness.
It was a holiday tradition in my house for my Nana to bake her famous sweet potato pie (full of white sugar, eggs, butter and cream), and for me to eat the whole pie by myself. If I did that now I’d feel like crap (mostly mentally)! Instead of avoiding sweets altogether, we’ve altered tradition to serve our needs and desires, and to keep us feeling merry all season long.
I’ve made some of my favorite sweets healthier, and started new traditions with new goodies! Nana’s old sweet potato pie is pretty naughty in my book (though not as naughty as plain celery for dessert) but my delicious new rendition of the pie is pretty nice. It’s about balance folks!
