This week’s Pay It Forward Friday organization is Voiceless, the animal protection institute, an Australian think tank dedicated to ending legalized cruelty (eg, factory farming) and fostering animal protection. Their vision is “a world in which animals are treated with respect and compassion.” That is my greatest vision too!
“The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” –– Mahatma Ghandi
Since animals do not have their own voices, Voiceless stands up for their rights as living, feeling, intelligent creatures. Since 2004 the institute has worked to bring the institutionalized suffering of animals to the forefront of Australia’s social and political agenda. Like I do, Voiceless believes that animal welfare is the next great social justice movement.
Voiceless is the first animal think tank we’ve supported on Pay It Forward Friday. Their work is inspiring and empowering. They support the work of animal advocates, writers, scientists, and journalists throughout Australia by offering grants and achievement prizes, and by creating strong animal justice networks.
Animals the world over need legal representation in order to assure meaningful respect and protection. Voiceless helps to develop animal law programs at universities around Australia, and works on fostering this burgeoning branch of the legal profession. I think we need an institute like Voiceless in the United States. Don’t you?
Today I am donating 20% of all proceeds from the 21-Day Vegan Blueprint to Voiceless.
I became vegan because it is wrong to support a greedy industry that promotes cruelty and takes the lives of other creatures. I would like to see the impact of Voiceless grow, to help everyday people become aware of the cruelty that is an intrinsic part of raising animals for food. Let’s make this the greatest social justice movement of our generation! The world will be so much better for it!

“I have for decades been concerned about factory farming, in part because of the tremendous harm inflicted on the environment, but also because of the shocking ongoing cruelty perpetuated on millions of sentient beings.” ––Dr. Jane Goodall, internationally recognized animal advocate, and patron of Voiceless
